This special place, located along the H St. entrance to Santa Margarita School, was planted in 1997 by volunteers with support from a California ReLeaf grant and local donors. From the beginning, this site has been maintained by volunteers for the use and enjoyment of the school and community. The school uses the Demonstration Forest as an outdoor classroom. Through the popular classroom adopt-a-tree program, directed by retired teachers Sharon Drake and Betty Williams, students learn about their adopted trees and enjoy decorating their trees for the holidays. Local residents can visit the forest to see living examples of trees recommended for planting in our area. The forest is also a nice place to take a quiet nature stroll.
